Arcade Expands into Home Goods with New Funding

Arcade, a generative AI marketplace initially focused on jewelry design, is broadening its scope to encompass home décor items, beginning with the introduction of rugs.

The company announced on Monday the rollout of a novel feature, “Match My Room.” This functionality enables users to upload an image of their existing room, facilitating the creation of designs that harmonize with the current color scheme and stylistic elements.

Series A Funding Secured

Concurrent with this expansion, Arcade revealed the successful completion of a $25 million Series A funding round. This brings the total capital raised by the company to $42 million.

Rug Creation Process

The rug design tool mirrors the functionality of Arcade’s jewelry generator, utilizing the power of both Midjourney and Stable Diffusion. Users begin by selecting their preferred rug material.

Following material selection, a text prompt is entered to articulate the desired design aesthetic. Upon generation, the design is connected with a manufacturing partner.

Creators receive a complimentary sample for approval prior to finalizing any purchase.

Pricing and Material Options

Testing indicates that rug prices commence at approximately $400 for a 3x9 hand-tufted wool rug, representing the most economical material choice.

Costs escalate with the selection of premium materials like cashmere, alpaca, and mohair. However, Arcade positions itself as offering more accessible pricing compared to high-end rug retailers.

“Match My Room” Feature Details

The “Match My Room” feature allows for the uploading of room photographs.

While the AI effectively analyzes color coordination, it currently lacks the capability to precisely replicate patterns present in other decorative elements, such as pillows or blankets.

Despite this limitation, the tool proves valuable in ensuring color harmony between the rug and existing furnishings.

Dream Boards and Community Features

Arcade provides “Dream Boards” for users who wish to explore designs purely for inspiration. These boards function similarly to Pinterest, curating products around specific themes, like earrings inspired by Hollywood glamour.

Users can browse other Dream Boards and directly purchase featured items.

Seller and Affiliate Programs

Arcade operates a seller program, offering a 5% commission on each sale – an increase from the previous 2.5%.

Further earning potential is available through Arcade’s affiliate program.

Entrepreneur Program Launched

A new entrepreneur program has been initiated to empower content creators with increased commission rates.

Media organizations and influencers boasting over 25,000 followers are encouraged to apply by contacting Arcade’s marketing team.

Early Traction and Metrics

Since the beta launch of its jewelry offering in September 2024, Arcade reports the generation of 650,000 jewelry designs.

However, the company has not disclosed the number of users intending to purchase these designs, nor the total commission earned by its sellers.

Leadership and Background

Arcade is led by Mariam Naficy, the founder of both cosmetics retailer Eve and design marketplace Minted.

Investment Details

The Series A funding round was spearheaded by Laura Chau of Canaan Partners, with contributions from Kirsten Green (Forerunner), April Underwood (Adverb Ventures), and Sol Bier (Factorial Funds).

Future Plans and Expansion

The newly acquired capital will be directed towards personnel recruitment, platform enhancements, and the introduction of additional product categories, including ceramics and pillows.

Naficy has indicated to TechCrunch that future expansions may include apparel and leather goods, with chain belts identified as a forthcoming addition.

Previous Funding Rounds

Arcade previously secured $17 million in funding from investors including Ashton Kutcher (Sound Ventures), Offline Ventures, and Reid Hoffman (LinkedIn co-founder).

Additional investors include Inspired Capital, Torch Capital, and David Luan, CEO of Adept AI Labs and former VP of Engineering at OpenAI.

This report has been updated to reflect a more comprehensive list of investors.
