Airbyte Expands Connectors for Secure Data Movement in the AI Era

Airbyte, an open-source data movement provider, is introducing a suite of new connectors. These additions are designed to empower businesses to effectively leverage their data assets in the current landscape of artificial intelligence, all while upholding data sovereignty principles.

New Capabilities for Enhanced Data Control

The San Francisco-based company announced on Thursday the release of several new functionalities. These are geared towards enabling secure data transfer from corporate systems, bypassing the need to directly access SaaS applications.

Key features include the ability to transfer unstructured data originating from platforms like Google Drive and SharePoint. Furthermore, compatibility with Apache Iceberg, an open-source format for large analytic tables, has been implemented.

Enterprise Connector Bundle Launched

A dedicated connector bundle is now available for enterprise-level clients. This bundle provides pre-built data connector pipelines for popular applications such as NetSuite, SAP, ServiceNow, and Workday.

According to Michel Tricot, co-founder and CEO of Airbyte, the primary advantage of these new features lies in the increased flexibility they offer enterprises. Businesses can now extract and utilize internal data, even for on-premise AI applications.

He emphasized that these features also present a viable alternative to AI services that could potentially expose customer data to external parties.

Maintaining Data Privacy and Control

“Fortune 500 companies favor Airbyte due to its combination of efficiency and control,” Tricot stated. “They retain complete oversight of data movement and its origins.”

He further explained that Airbyte’s customers possess full visibility into their data pipelines. This allows them to proactively identify and remove sensitive information, such as employee compensation details, before the data reaches its final destination.

“Protecting your first-party data is crucial; relinquishing it for intelligence is a detrimental exchange,” Tricot cautioned. “Many executives recognize this risk. Concerns are growing about sensitive data being inputted into AI models during interactions, and rightfully so.”

Apache Iceberg Integration: A Key Highlight

Tricot highlighted the integration with Iceberg as a significant advancement. Iceberg enables organizations to consolidate their data within a data lakehouse, establishing a unified “source of truth” accessible to various applications.

“[Iceberg] offers compatibility with Databricks, BigQuery, Snowflake, and emerging AI applications,” Tricot noted. “This compatibility stems from its support for a portable schema.”

Company Background and Growth

Founded in 2020 by Tricot and Jean Lafleur, the company’s COO, Airbyte currently serves over 7,000 enterprise customers. Notable clients include Monday.com, Invesco, and Calendly.

The startup boasts approximately 250,000 installations and has secured over $181 million in venture funding from investors like Coatue, Accel, and Benchmark.
