Apple TV+ Now Accessible on Google TV

Google has announced that the Apple TV+ streaming service is now available on the Google TV platform. Initial availability begins with Chromecast with Google TV devices.

Expansion to Google TVs manufactured by Sony and TCL will follow shortly. Further integration across other devices powered by Android TV is planned for the coming months, according to Google.

The Evolution of Google TV

Google TV was initially presented last September as the future interface for Chromecast. It consolidates streaming services, live television through YouTube TV, and other Google services into a unified interface.

This approach aims to enhance competitiveness with similar platforms offered by Apple and Amazon. Currently, the platform boasts support for numerous popular streaming services.

  • HBO Max

  • Prime Video
  • CBS All Access
  • Hulu
  • YouTube

Accessing Apple TV+ Content

Subscribers to Apple TV+ can now access its original programming. This includes a diverse range of content such as movies, documentaries, and critically acclaimed series.

Popular titles include “Ted Lasso,” “For All Mankind,” “Servant,” “The Morning Show,” and “Dickinson.”

The application also grants access to a user’s purchased movie and television show library from Apple. It provides personalized recommendations and supports Family Sharing, allowing up to six family members to share a single subscription.

Enhanced Google TV Features

Following the launch, Apple Originals will be integrated into Google TV’s personalized recommendations. Content will also appear within search results.

Users can utilize Google Assistant to launch the Apple TV app or request specific Apple Original titles by name. Adding Apple TV+ programming to the Google TV Watchlist will also be possible.

These features are expected to become available in the “coming months,” rather than immediately upon launch.

Broad Platform Availability

This launch positions Google TV as one of the final major streaming device platforms to support Apple’s streaming service. The service is now widely accessible across various platforms.

Apple TV+ initially launched in November 2019 for Apple customers. It subsequently expanded to non-Apple platforms, including Roku devices and Amazon’s Fire TV platform in the same year.

Today, the service is also available on smart TVs from Samsung, LG, Vizio, and Sony. It is also accessible on gaming consoles such as PlayStation (PS4 & PS5) and Xbox (One, Series X, Series S), as well as through web browsers.
