Bond Vet Raises $17M to Revolutionize Veterinary Care

Bond Vet, a veterinary startup headquartered in New York City and focused on innovative technology, has revealed the completion of a $17 million Series A funding round. Talisman Capital Partners spearheaded the investment.

The company operates a network of clinics throughout NYC designed to bridge the service gap between emergency veterinary hospitals and general practice veterinary care, drawing inspiration from the CityMD model. Unlike certain other emerging veterinary businesses, Bond does not mandate a membership for scheduling appointments. Owners of pets are welcome to visit on a walk-in basis or reserve a time slot through the website or mobile application.

The company delivers both urgent and routine care, encompassing standard vaccinations and wellness examinations.

Bond places significant emphasis on the physical environment of its clinics, incorporating features like high-traction flooring to prevent slips for young dogs and examination tables that allow pet owners to stay near their companions during suitable procedures or assessments.

The company also utilizes technology to streamline workflows for veterinarians and nurses – for instance, simplifying record-keeping – enabling them to dedicate more time to patient care.

Bond also features its own telehealth service, enabling pet owners to communicate with their veterinarian via text messaging before and after appointments, or potentially resolve certain issues through remote consultation.

According to Cofounder and CEO Mo Punjani, the operational efficiencies integrated into Bond Vet’s structure allow the company to offer cost savings to its clients. While routine care pricing aligns with other veterinary practices, Punjani states that emergency services can be provided at a reduced rate compared to conventional veterinary emergency rooms.

The American Pet Products Association projects that pet-related expenditures will exceed $100 billion in the coming year, driven by millennial pet owners’ preference for premium products for their animals. Numerous startups within the pet industry are benefiting from this evolving trend, and Bond Vet is among them.

The Bond Vet team, including both clinic personnel and headquarters staff, currently comprises approximately 100 individuals, with women making up 80 percent of the workforce.

Since its inception in June 2019, Bond has provided care to over 15,000 individual pets at its clinics. The company intends to utilize the new funding to further develop its technological infrastructure and broaden its geographic reach, with plans to introduce clinics in surrounding suburban locations in the next year.
