Bumble Enhances Safety with New ID Verification

Bumble Enhances User Safety with New Verification and Features
Responding to growing user demand for increased security, Bumble is implementing a new identity verification system. This update brings the dating app closer in line with the safety measures offered by its competitor, Tinder.
New Safety and Matching Tools
Beyond ID verification, Bumble has introduced three additional features designed to improve the user experience and foster a safer environment. These include proactive flagging of inappropriate messages and a date-sharing capability.
ID Verification Process
Bumble’s new verification process allows users to submit a photo of a valid, government-issued identification document. Successful verification results in a badge displayed on the user’s profile.
This badge enables users to filter profiles, prioritizing those who have completed the ID verification process. Users can also request that their matches verify their identities.
Geographic Availability
Currently, the ID verification feature is available in the following countries: the U.S., U.K., Australia, Canada, France, India, Ireland, Spain, Germany, Mexico, and New Zealand. Further expansion to other regions is planned.
The introduction of this verification system arrives as advancements in AI make it increasingly difficult to distinguish between authentic and fraudulent dating profiles. It also addresses the ongoing issue of romance scams.
Sharing Date Details for Added Security
The “Share Date” feature allows Bumble users to share crucial date information – including the identity of the person they are meeting, the scheduled time, and the location – with trusted contacts. Updates to these plans can be easily shared within the app.
Tinder previously launched a similar feature, known as “Share My Date,” in April 2024.
Proactive Message Moderation
A new “Review Before You Send” feature is focused on improving safety within the messaging system. This tool flags potentially inappropriate messages before they are sent.
Initially implemented for the “Compliments” feature, “Review Before You Send” prompts users to review and edit flagged messages, encouraging more considerate communication.
Introducing the “Discover” Page
Bumble’s redesigned “Discover” experience provides a new method for finding compatible matches. Inspired by Tinder’s “Explore” page, it allows users to browse profiles based on shared interests, dating intentions, and community affiliations.
The profiles featured on the “Discover” page are updated on a daily basis, ensuring a fresh selection of potential connections.
Addressing Revenue Concerns
These feature announcements represent Bumble’s efforts to revitalize growth within its dating app. The company recently reported a 3.8% decrease in quarterly app revenue, totaling $212.4 million in the fourth quarter.
