Discord Screen Sharing Now Available on iOS & Android

The widely used communication platform Discord is introducing a highly anticipated capability today: screen sharing from mobile devices.

This new functionality, called mobile screen sharing, enables users to display and transmit whatever is visible on their phone's screen to a group of their contacts. The developers have emphasized their efforts to optimize performance, especially during scenarios with significant visual activity, such as live game broadcasting or shared viewing experiences for platforms like YouTube and TikTok, ensuring smooth playback with reduced delays.

When broadcasting from your mobile device, all content appearing on your screen will be visible to viewers – therefore, it’s advisable to activate your phone’s Do Not Disturb function to prevent unwanted notifications from interrupting your stream.

Discord initially implemented screen sharing functionality in 2017, concurrently with the introduction of video calls. Previously, this feature was limited to desktop and laptop computers; this update extends screen sharing to both iOS and Android platforms. Mobile screen shares can be viewed by up to 50 people at once, and there is no limit to the number of users who can simultaneously share their screens within a single channel.

The update is beginning its release today, but availability may vary as it is being distributed in stages. While not everyone will have access immediately, the company anticipates that all users with compatible devices will receive the update by the end of Thursday.
