Fisker and Foxconn EV Deal: Electric Vehicle Production Partnership

Fisker and Foxconn Collaborate on New Electric Vehicle
Fisker, an emerging electric vehicle manufacturer, has formalized an agreement with Foxconn, the Taiwanese firm renowned for iPhone assembly. This collaboration centers on the joint development and production of a novel electric vehicle.
Production Timeline and Target Markets
The vehicle, marketed under the Fisker brand, is slated for initial production in the United States before the close of 2023. Distribution will encompass key markets including North America, Europe, China, and India.
Vehicle Details Remain Largely Undisclosed
While a comprehensive unveiling is pending, certain details remain confidential. The specific name of the vehicle and the precise locations of future manufacturing facilities have not yet been revealed by either company.
According to a Fisker spokesperson who spoke with TechCrunch, the vehicle will represent a “breakthrough new segment,” diverging from traditional sedan or SUV classifications. It will be designed to accommodate five passengers.
Project PEAR: A Revolutionary Approach
The collaborative effort has been designated Project PEAR, an acronym for Personal Electric Automotive Revolution. Henrik Fisker, chairman and CEO of Fisker, anticipates that the PEAR vehicle will significantly impact automotive design.
The aim is to create a vehicle that is both aesthetically appealing and environmentally conscious. The design philosophy, as explained by a Fisker representative, prioritizes attracting drivers transitioning from gasoline-powered cars, avoiding ostentatious displays of electric vehicle technology.
Building on a Previous Understanding
This definitive agreement follows a memorandum of understanding established in February, signaling the expectation of a formal partnership. The agreement outlines a production target of 250,000 units per year, distributed across multiple manufacturing locations.
Foxconn’s entry into the automotive sector is further evidenced by a January partnership with Zhejiang Geely Holding Group, forming a joint venture focused on providing production and consulting services to car manufacturers.
Strategic Partnership for Mass Market Accessibility
Henrik Fisker stated, “Our partnership with Foxconn enables us to deliver those industry firsts at a price point that truly opens up electric mobility to the mass market.” He emphasized the need to re-evaluate all facets of product development, sourcing, and manufacturing to fulfill the promises of Project PEAR.
This collaboration is intended to deliver innovative features while making electric vehicles more accessible to a wider consumer base.
