Fortnite Livestreaming Now Available on Houseparty

Houseparty and Fortnite Integration: Livestreaming Update
Houseparty, the social video application obtained by Epic Games – the creators of Fortnite – in 2019, has announced a significant advancement in the synergy between these two platforms. Gamers can now directly broadcast their Fortnite gameplay into Houseparty rooms.
Sharing Gameplay with Friends
This new functionality enables users to share their gaming experience with up to nine friends simultaneously within a Houseparty environment. It builds upon the earlier introduction of “Fortnite Mode” in November, which integrated video chat into the Fortnite experience.
Previously, Fortnite Mode allowed players to view live feeds from their friends while playing. Now, the process is reversed, allowing players to stream their game to friends for viewing directly inside Houseparty.
How the Livestreaming Feature Works
To utilize this feature, Fortnite players must first activate Fortnite Mode Streaming and connect to Houseparty. Once streaming begins, friends on Houseparty will receive a notification indicating the availability of the game feed.
The streamer can monitor their audience through a graphic overlay on their screen, displaying a “watcher count.” This is visually represented by an eye icon, positioned in the middle-left of the gamer’s screen.
Interaction During Livestreams
During the livestream, both the player and their friends can continue to communicate and chat as usual. This fosters a shared gaming experience even when not all participants are actively playing.
Privacy and Control
Players retain control over their livestream and can disable it at any time through Fortnite’s settings, without affecting the video chat functionality. Parents and guardians can manage Fortnite Mode and other privacy settings within the game itself.
Epic Games confirms that sensitive personal information, including payment details, will be blocked from the streams. However, gameplay, menus, and The Lobby are all streamable when Fortnite Mode is enabled.
Houseparty's Evolving Role
Houseparty initially gained popularity as a platform for virtual social gatherings via video chat. Following its acquisition by Epic Games, it has become increasingly integrated with Fortnite.
This latest feature has the potential to attract casual livestreaming activity currently found on platforms like Twitch, Facebook, or YouTube, where users often stream for friends rather than a broader audience.
Recording and Platform Availability
Currently, the feature does not include a recording function for saving and sharing livestreams externally. However, Fortnite already provides replay saving capabilities.
The integration of Fortnite gameplay with Houseparty is initially available on PC, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. Epic Games has not yet announced support for other platforms.
Houseparty users on iOS, Android, and Chrome can view the livestreams. The previous video chat feature within Fortnite was also compatible with PCs and PlayStation consoles.
