Google Adds AI Features to Chromebook Plus Devices

Google Enhances Chromebook Plus with New AI Capabilities
A range of artificial intelligence features are being integrated by Google into its Chromebook Plus devices, designed to boost productivity. These additions include a screen-selection search tool, a text capture function, and the innovative NotebookLM.
Screen Selection and Text Capture
The newly implemented screen-selection tool functions in a manner comparable to Google Lens and the “Circle to Search” capability found in the Chrome browser on mobile devices. A long press on the launcher button, or utilizing the screenshot functionality, allows users to highlight areas on their screen for immediate Google searches.
Furthermore, this tool facilitates the quick scheduling of events directly from selected text within the browser.
AI-Powered Shortcuts and Image Generation
Previously, Google introduced a “quick insert” key on select Chromebook Plus models to activate shortcuts. Now, this key provides access to Google’s AI image generation tools, alongside AI-assisted writing functionalities.
Simplify Complex Text with AI
A new “Simplify” feature has been added, enabling users to leverage AI to explain, condense, or summarize any highlighted text. This is particularly useful for understanding challenging content.
Google AI Pro Plan Included
All new purchasers of Chromebook Plus devices will receive a one-year subscription to the Google AI Pro plan. This plan grants access to the Gemini app, the video editing tool Flow, the image-to-video creator Whisk, and integrated Gemini functionality within Gmail, Docs, and Chrome.
The Google AI Pro plan also includes 2TB of cloud storage, and typically costs $240 annually.
Exclusive Features for Lenovo Chromebook Plus 14
In addition to the general enhancements, Google is launching two AI features exclusive to Lenovo’s new Chromebook Plus 14. One feature utilizes AI to suggest optimal organization for tabs and documents.
The second allows users to edit images directly within the Gallery app, enabling background removal and sticker creation.
Lenovo Chromebook Plus 14 Specifications
Lenovo’s latest Chromebook boasts an OLED touchscreen display and is powered by an ARM-based MediaTek Kompanio Ultra chip. It is available in configurations with 12GB and 16GB of RAM.
Pricing for the 12GB model is $649, while the 16GB variant is priced at $749.
