Google AI Plus Plan Expands to 40+ Countries

Google Expands Access to Affordable AI Plus Plan
Google has broadened the availability of its more budget-friendly AI Plus plan to over 40 countries globally. This expansion includes regions such as Angola, Bangladesh, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Egypt, Ghana, Indonesia, Kenya, Mexico, Nepal, Nigeria, Philippines, Senegal, Uganda, Vietnam, and Zimbabwe.
Initial Launch and Pricing
The AI Plus plan was initially introduced in Indonesia earlier this month, priced at Rp 75,000 (approximately $4.50) monthly. In the majority of countries, the subscription is offered at around $5 per month.
Google is also providing promotional discounts, reducing the price by 50% for a six-month period in select locations, including Nepal and Mexico.
Features Included with AI Plus
Subscribing to the Plus tier grants users access to the advanced Gemini 2.5 Pro model. Furthermore, it unlocks a suite of creative tools designed for image and video generation, such as Flow, Whisk, and Veo 3 Fast.
Enhanced functionality within Google’s AI research assistant, NotebookLM, is also included. Users can leverage AI capabilities directly within Gmail, Docs, and Sheets, alongside receiving 200GB of cloud storage.
Competitive Landscape
This announcement follows closely on the heels of OpenAI’s expansion of its sub-$5 ChatGPT Go plan to Indonesia. Interestingly, India, where OpenAI first launched ChatGPT Go, is not currently included in Google’s rollout list.
Strategic Implications
Both Google and OpenAI currently offer a standard $20 per month subscription plan. However, with these newly introduced, lower-cost tiers, they are actively seeking to attract a wider base of paying users in regions where a $20 monthly fee represents a significant expense.
These more accessible pricing options aim to democratize access to advanced AI technologies across diverse economic landscapes.
