Access Box.Net on Ubuntu - A Simple Guide

Accessing Box.net Files Directly from Ubuntu

Box.net provides 1GB of complimentary online storage, offering accessibility from any location. I personally utilize this service to safeguard crucial files, such as purchased ebooks, ensuring they aren't lost.

This led to a consideration of how to directly access these files within the Ubuntu operating system.

Mounting Your Box.net Account

Fortunately, a straightforward method exists for mounting your Box.net account. Navigate to "Places" and then select "Connect to Server."

A dialog window will then appear, prompting you for connection details.

Connect to Server Dialog

In the "User Name" field, input your individual username. Avoid using the example username provided here.

For the "Server" address, enter www.box.net/dav.

The "Name to use for connection" field is customizable; this name will be displayed on the desktop icon representing the connection.

Authentication

Upon double-clicking the newly created icon, an authentication dialog will appear, requesting your login credentials.

WebDAV Login

The option to save your password is available; however, the decision to do so is a matter of personal preference.

Following successful authentication, you should have full access to your Box.net account.

Compatibility

This method has been verified to function correctly on the following Ubuntu versions:

  • Ubuntu Dapper
  • Ubuntu Edgy Eft
