Lucid Air Sets New Range Standard for Electric Vehicles

Lucid Group, the electric vehicle manufacturer preparing for a public offering, announced Thursday that a specific configuration of its forthcoming Air luxury sedan has achieved an EPA-estimated range exceeding 520 miles.

This official rating for the Lucid Air Dream Edition Range model positions Lucid ahead of Tesla, a company historically recognized for leading in electric vehicle range.

Range and Model Variations

Expectations were high that the Lucid Air, across its various editions, would demonstrate a range comparable to, or surpassing, certain Tesla models. This announcement confirms those expectations and provides insight into Lucid’s strategy.

The company intends to offer a diverse selection of Air sedan versions, with pricing spanning from $77,400 to $169,000.

Initially, Lucid had planned to launch with a single Dream Edition variant. However, the lineup has expanded to include two distinct versions.

Lucid Air Dream Edition Range: Boasts a range of 520 miles when fitted with 19-inch tires and delivers 933 horsepower.
Lucid Air Dream Edition Performance: Offers increased power with 1,111 horsepower, achieving a range of 471 miles on a single charge with 19-inch tires.

Range figures are impacted by tire size; the Dream Edition Range sees a reduction to 481 miles with 21-inch tires, while the Dream Edition Performance achieves 451 miles.

Technology Behind the Range

Lucid Group’s CTO and CEO, Peter Rawlinson, attributes the impressive range to a combination of factors.

These include the vehicle’s 900V battery architecture, advanced battery management system, compact drive units, and innovative electric drive train technology.

Rawlinson believes this achievement establishes a new benchmark for electric vehicle range.
