Mercedes-Benz EQS Price: Cheaper Than the S-Class

Mercedes-Benz EQS Pricing Strategy

A deliberate pricing strategy has been implemented by Mercedes-Benz for its premier EQS electric vehicle. It is positioned at a price point over $8,700 lower than the gasoline-powered S-Class model.

EQS Model Availability and Cost

The EQS is scheduled to become available at dealerships across the United States in the fall of 2021. The starting price will be $103,360, which includes a $1,050 destination charge.

Furthermore, a federal tax credit of $7,500 will be applicable, reducing the overall cost for consumers.

Trim Levels and Pricing Variations

Initially, Mercedes-Benz will offer two distinct EQS models: the EQS 450+ and the EQS 580 4MATIC. The latter boasts a higher starting price of $120,160.

These models will be available in three trim levels, with the highest tier, aptly named Pinnacle, increasing the price to a maximum of $126,360, inclusive of the destination charge.

Strategic Importance of Pricing

The decision to price the EQS below the S-Class, which begins at $112,150 (including destination), highlights the significance of this launch. The S-Class has historically represented the pinnacle of luxury and prestige for the company.

Mercedes-Benz, having committed to a €40 billion ($47 billion) investment to transition to an all-electric automaker by the end of the decade, must successfully attract both existing S-Class owners and new customers to the EQS.

Luxury Features and Technological Advancements

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS delivers an expected level of exceptional luxury. It is also equipped with cutting-edge technology, including a 56-inch hyperscreen.

Additional features include a high-performance HEPA air filter and intelligent software designed to anticipate and respond to the driver’s preferences. A unique fragrance, No.6 MOOD Linen, described as having notes of fig and linen, is also available.

Expectations for the EQS Launch

Mercedes-Benz anticipates that the combination of advanced technology, performance capabilities, design aesthetics, and competitive pricing will appeal to potential buyers.

The successful introduction of the EQS in North America is crucial for Mercedes-Benz, particularly in light of the challenges encountered during the launch – and subsequent discontinuation – of the EQC crossover in the United States.
