Movano Fitness Ring Launching in H2 2022

The Evolution of Fitness Rings
My initial encounter with a fitness ring occurred during CES 2017. Now, four years later, it's reasonable to speculate whether these devices are poised for increased prominence at the upcoming show, regardless of whether attendance is in-person or virtual.
The Motiv ring previously showcased the possibility of transferring fitness tracker capabilities to a ring format, but ultimately didn't achieve widespread success. However, Oura has subsequently demonstrated a more effective realization of the potential these products hold.
Anticipated Growth in 2022
It is expected that more startups will investigate this developing product category in 2022. CES is ideally situated to serve as a launchpad for these innovations.
Movano, a medical device firm located in the East Bay area, has announced the forthcoming release of its own Ring device. This product is specifically targeted towards women.
Key Features and Functionality
The Movano Ring is engineered to track heart rate, sleep patterns, step count, calorie expenditure, blood oxygen levels, and breathing rate – features commonly found in standard fitness trackers.
The device aims to distinguish itself by functioning as a more robust healthcare tool, providing users with practical and insightful data. This focus on actionable insights mirrors a growing trend among wearable technology manufacturers as they move beyond basic activity tracking.
Like Oura, Movano prioritizes its application as the central hub for data interpretation, a logical approach given the device's return to the design principles of screenless fitness trackers.
FDA Clearance and Release Timeline
According to John Mastrototaro, the company’s CEO, Movano is dedicated to providing valuable health information to its users.
Currently, Movano is navigating the process of obtaining FDA clearance for features such as blood oxygen monitoring and heart rate tracking. Securing this approval presents a significant challenge for newer companies, but is crucial for establishing credibility within the healthcare sector.
This regulatory process can potentially influence the product’s launch date or initial feature set. As of now, the device is slated for a beta release sometime during the latter half of next year.
The Movano Ring represents the first, but almost certainly not the last, fitness ring to gain attention at CES next week.
