Netflix Adds Dialogue-Only Subtitles - A New Viewing Experience

Netflix Launches Dialogue-Only Subtitle Option
Netflix has recently implemented a novel subtitle feature designed to present only spoken dialogue, removing descriptive audio cues.
The announcement, made on Thursday, details how users can activate these new subtitles. Navigate to the “Audio” settings and then select “Subtitles.”
An “English” option, distinct from “English (CC),” will be visible, signifying that only spoken words will be displayed.
Complementing Existing Closed Captions
This new feature exists alongside the current closed captions (CC), which continue to serve the deaf and hard of hearing community.
Traditional closed captions include not only dialogue but also crucial sound effects and musical cues.
The dialogue-only subtitles, conversely, provide a more focused experience, presenting only the spoken lines of characters.
Responding to Increased Subtitle Usage
The introduction of this option is directly linked to the increasing prevalence of subtitle use.
Netflix reports that almost 50% of all viewing time within the United States involves viewers utilizing subtitles.
Availability and Rollout
Currently, dialogue-only subtitles are available with the latest season of the series “You.”
Expansion to other new Netflix original content is planned, encompassing all languages supported by the streaming platform.
This rollout will ensure a wider audience can benefit from this streamlined subtitle experience.
