Embed YouTube Videos: Using the YouTube Custom Player

Enhancing Your Website with Embedded Video
For website and blog owners seeking to enrich their content offerings, integrating high-quality embedded videos relevant to your site’s subject matter is an excellent strategy.
Captivating your audience and encouraging repeat visits can be achieved by featuring a regularly updated “video of the day,” “week,” or “month” that complements the information you present.
Videos serve as fantastic additions to any online platform, significantly boosting engagement.

Introducing the YouTube Custom Player
We now present another valuable YouTube tool designed to simplify the process of embedding videos on your website or blog.
The YouTube Custom Player allows for seamless integration with minimal effort, eliminating the need for complex embed code manipulation and video resizing.
This tool streamlines the embedding process, making it accessible even for those less familiar with coding.
Integrating YouTube Videos into Your Website
YouTube represents a vast repository of video content, encompassing virtually any subject matter imaginable. For website owners covering specific products or services, it’s highly probable that numerous relevant YouTube videos exist. Similarly, bloggers focused on a particular niche will almost certainly discover videos addressing their topic.
Wouldn't it be advantageous to allow your audience to view this video content directly on your website, eliminating the need for a redirect to YouTube? This is precisely where the YouTube custom player offers a solution. Previously, I routinely embedded weekly videos into my blog, utilizing the standard YouTube embed code and meticulously selecting video dimensions to fit my sidebar.

Achieving the correct size and placement proved consistently challenging, particularly when newer videos possessed slightly different dimensions than their predecessors. However, the new custom player functionality from YouTube streamlines this process considerably. It allows for the creation of custom players, and in my workflow, I establish a uniquely named player for each blog I manage.

You have the flexibility to select a color scheme and layout that complements your website’s overall design. My preferred setup enables centralized video content management across all your websites via the My Players page on YouTube. This is accomplished by creating Playlists with names corresponding to the websites where the player will be embedded. Subsequently, add the desired video to the appropriate playlist.

Within the lower section of the Custom Player configuration page, you’ll find the option to utilize the content from these playlists as the source for your new custom video player.

Click the button to generate the embed code, which you can then insert into your website. In my case, I integrated the player into the sidebar.php file of my Wordpress blog. This positions the player within your sidebar, and you can adjust its width and height to suit your site’s layout.

If you utilize Wordpress, embedding the player code within an HTML widget is a straightforward method for adding a sidebar player.

Upon completion, the video content contained within the designated playlist will be displayed on your website, presented within the customized video player you previously configured.

All of your custom video players are conveniently accessible on your My Players page. This allows you to create a distinct player for each of your websites.

The primary benefit of this system is its simplicity. Once initially set up, updating content across all your websites requires only logging into your YouTube account and replacing the video within the corresponding playlist. The new video will then automatically appear on your website. This eliminates the time-consuming task of individually updating videos on each site – manage everything centrally from YouTube.

I encourage you to experiment with the YouTube custom video player on your own website. In my experience, there’s no more efficient method for streaming customized content to your site with minimal effort. Forget repeatedly copying and pasting embed codes – simply update your playlists and you’re finished.
