Quora Poe Launches Platform for Custom AI Apps

Poe Launches New App Creation Feature
Quora’s Poe platform, which consolidates multiple AI models into a single environment, has introduced a new functionality. This allows users to construct custom visual interfaces – effectively, applications – built upon any combination of available models.
Introducing Poe Apps
The new feature, named Poe Apps, empowers users to define the application they desire through the new App Creator tool. These descriptions can specify particular models, such as OpenAI’s o3-mini or Google’s Veo 2 for video generation, or utilize broader, more generalized requirements.
Powered by Anthropic’s recently unveiled Claude 3.7 Sonnet, the App Creator translates user descriptions into code for the app interface. It also incorporates custom logic expressed in JavaScript. Poe Apps can operate alongside the standard Poe chatbot interface or function as entirely visual experiences.
Examples and Functionality
The underlying code of these apps is accessible for manual adjustments and detailed fine-tuning. Quora has developed several demonstration applications.
- One app transforms photographs into 3D anime-style artwork, utilizing OpenAI’s GPT-4o and Black Forest Labs’ Flux-Pro-1.1.
- Another example app facilitates the removal of unwanted elements from images, leveraging Bria’s Bria Eraser model.
Poe Apps are currently shareable with other Poe users exclusively via the web, with iOS and Android support planned for future release. Each app’s use of an AI model will deduct from a user’s point balance within Poe.
Free users receive a daily allocation of points, while subscribers to Poe’s $5 monthly premium tier benefit from flexible daily or monthly point packages.
Future Development and Monetization
In a recent blog post, Quora indicated that the App Creator is available at a reduced price during its early access period. The company also alluded to potential future monetization options for app creators.
“We have a substantial roadmap planned to provide creators with even greater control,” Quora stated. “This includes the possibility of earning revenue directly from their applications.”
The company expressed excitement regarding user creations and anticipates improvements to Poe Apps as AI models continue to enhance their code-writing capabilities throughout the year.
Comparison to Existing Tools
Poe Apps build upon the web apps feature launched last July. They are comparable to Anthropic’s Artifacts and OpenAI’s ChatGPT Canvas tools. These are dedicated workspaces designed for editing and expanding upon AI-generated content, such as code and documents.
While the capabilities of applications produced by these tools are currently somewhat limited, they demonstrably showcase the advancements in models’ programming abilities.
