Revolut Reports $1 Billion Profit in 2024

Revolut's Strong Financial Performance in 2024
Despite pausing its initial public offering (IPO) plans, Revolut, the U.K.-based neobanking startup valued at $45 billion, has demonstrated significant financial strength.
The company’s annual report reveals a net profit of $1 billion (£790 million) for 2024. This represents a substantial increase in profitability.
Customer and Revenue Growth
Revolut experienced a 38% expansion in its customer base, reaching a total of 52.5 million users. This growth underscores the platform’s increasing popularity.
Revenue for the year surged by 72%, totaling $4 billion (£3.1 billion). This substantial revenue increase highlights the company’s successful business model.
Four Consecutive Years of Profitability
This marks the fourth consecutive year of profitability for Revolut. The company has consistently maintained a positive financial position.
In 2024, net profit more than doubled compared to the $428 million earned in 2023. This demonstrates accelerated financial performance.
A key achievement was securing a full banking license in the U.K., its primary market. This license allows for expanded financial services.
A significant secondary share sale boosted the company’s valuation to $45 billion. This reflects investor confidence in Revolut’s future prospects.
The launch of Revolut X, a dedicated cryptocurrency exchange, further diversified the company’s offerings.
Potential Stablecoin and Expansion Plans
Speculation suggests that Revolut X may pave the way for the introduction of the company’s own stablecoin. This would expand its presence in the digital asset space.
The development of this stablecoin is expected to be a complex undertaking, spanning multiple jurisdictions beyond the European MiCA crypto region.
Growth of the Wealth Division
While specific revenue figures for Revolut X weren’t disclosed, the Wealth group – encompassing the exchange and savings products – experienced remarkable growth.
Revenue within the Wealth group increased by 298%, rising from $158 million in 2023 to $647 million in 2024. This makes Wealth the second-largest revenue contributor.
The largest revenue stream remains the fees generated from card payments, which grew by 43% to $887 million last year.
CEO Statement and Future Priorities
“2024 was a landmark year for Revolut,” stated CEO and co-founder Nik Storonsky. He highlighted both customer growth and increased engagement with the platform’s services.
For 2025, the company’s primary goals are to officially launch banking operations in the U.K. and Mexico, leveraging recently acquired licenses.
Revolut also aims to double its customer base to 100 million users. This ambitious target reflects the company’s growth aspirations.
Legal Challenges and U.S. Market Potential
Recent legal issues include a lawsuit filed by Rippling against Revolut, seeking information regarding alleged funds transferred to an individual connected to a competitor.
The new cryptocurrency exchange could be instrumental in Revolut’s efforts to penetrate the U.S. market. Favorable regulatory changes in the U.S. could facilitate this expansion.
Potential Fundraising and IPO Considerations
Reports suggest Revolut may be considering another share sale, potentially at a $60 billion valuation, alongside the planned stablecoin launch.
However, the company declined to comment on future fundraising activities or the timing of a potential IPO.
A spokesperson stated that the current focus is on executing the company’s strategy, driving growth, expanding globally, and innovating for customers.
