Salesforce and AWS Expand Partnership with Deeper Integration

Salesforce and AWS Deepen Cloud Integration

Salesforce and AWS are recognized as leading cloud providers within their respective domains. Their collaborative relationship has been steadily growing, and a new phase of integration capabilities has recently been unveiled. This advancement aims to streamline data sharing and application development across both platforms.

Enhanced Data Accessibility for Developers

Patrick Stokes, EVP and GM for Platform at Salesforce, highlighted the success of previous collaborative efforts, such as secure data sharing. However, customer demand prompted a desire for more comprehensive integration, leading to today’s announcement as a pivotal first step.

Stokes explained, “Initial phases of the partnership proved highly successful, providing valuable insights from both companies and our shared customers. This learning process allows us to better complement each other’s solutions.”

The overarching objective is to create a unified experience, merging the strengths of Amazon services with the capabilities of the Salesforce platform. These new features represent a significant stride towards achieving this goal.

New Integration Features

The collaboration centers around several key features designed to simplify development on both platforms. A primary focus is enabling developers to access Amazon data within Salesforce without extensive manual coding.

“We are virtualizing Amazon data within the Salesforce platform,” Stokes stated. “This means data from sources like S3 buckets or Amazon RDS will appear as native data within Salesforce.”

Conversely, developers utilizing Amazon services will gain seamless access to Salesforce data, presented natively within the Amazon environment. This is facilitated through connectors designed to ensure smooth data flow with minimal coding requirements.

Event Sharing and Simplified Access

The companies are also introducing event sharing capabilities, empowering customers of both Amazon and Salesforce to construct microservices-based applications that seamlessly integrate across both platforms.

“This allows for the creation of microservices architectures spanning Salesforce and Amazon, all without the need for custom coding,” explained Stokes. “Out-of-the-box connectors will enable users to easily select and integrate desired events.”

Furthermore, improvements are being made to identity and access management, providing a guided setup process for easier platform access. Integration of Amazon Chime communication tools into Service Cloud and other Salesforce services is also underway, leveraging AWS machine learning for virtual call center solutions.

Benefits for Businesses and Developers

Rachel Thorton, Amazon VP of Global Marketing, emphasized the potential benefits of this collaboration. She believes it will empower developers to create innovative solutions that span both platforms.

“This unlocks significant possibilities for developers, accelerating innovation and ultimately leading to improved customer experiences,” Thornton said.

It is important to note that Salesforce maintains strong partnerships with other cloud providers, including Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform.

Timeline and Future Developments

While these integration capabilities have been announced, they are currently in development. Beta testing is scheduled to begin later this year, with general availability anticipated sometime next year.

Further details regarding the partnership are expected to be revealed at Dreamforce and re:Invent, the respective customer conferences for Salesforce and Amazon, later in the year.
