Scratchpad Raises $13M Series A to Revolutionize Salesforce Data Entry

Scratchpad Secures $13 Million Series A Funding

Scratchpad, a startup focused on enhancing information flow for sales professionals into Salesforce, has announced the completion of a $13 million Series A funding round. The investment was spearheaded by Craft Ventures, with additional participation from Accel.

Total Funding and Future Plans

This latest round brings the company’s total funding to $16.6 million, building upon the $3.6 million seed round finalized in October. According to co-founder and CEO Pouyan Salehi, the decision to seek additional capital wasn’t initially planned.

However, the investors demonstrated a clear understanding of the company’s vision, and the funds will be utilized to expedite the product development roadmap.

Organic Growth and Investor Interest

Salehi explained that the company experienced significant organic user growth, driving the need for increased resources. “We had ample runway, but a strong bottom-up user adoption began to emerge,” he stated.

The lead investor, David Sacks, recognized the potential of Scratchpad’s approach, leading to a relatively swift agreement. Craft Ventures became aware of Scratchpad through positive feedback from companies already within their investment portfolio.

A Bottom-Up Approach to Sales Tools

The “bottoms up” strategy, common in developer tools and knowledge worker software, is being applied to sales, focusing on direct engagement with salespeople rather than solely targeting sales managers. This method fosters early adoption among sales team members before introducing paid versions to management.

Sales teams often resist tools imposed upon them, as traditional systems resemble databases and lack the intuitive workflow they require. Scratchpad offers an interface similar to familiar applications like spreadsheets or note-taking programs, while maintaining a direct link to Salesforce.

Data Integration and Team Insights

Paid subscription tiers provide a comprehensive view of sales team activity and ensure consistent Salesforce data usage, as information within Scratchpad automatically synchronizes with the Salesforce database.

The company has initially concentrated on developing the individual salesperson’s workspace. The new capital will be allocated to building a team workspace, enabling data flow from individual contributors to a team-level perspective for enhanced managerial oversight.

This includes capturing valuable notes, which often aren’t recorded in Salesforce but offer crucial context regarding customer interactions.

Customer Traction and Validation

Scratchpad is currently being utilized by thousands of users, including prominent companies such as Autodesk, Brex, Lacework, Snowflake, and Twilio. Specific customer numbers were not disclosed by Salehi.

Investor Perspective on Viral Growth

David Sacks highlighted the product’s viral spread as a key factor in his investment decision. “Once a sales representative begins using Scratchpad, it quickly becomes an integral part of their daily routine, and they naturally share it with colleagues. This organic expansion is uncommon and signifies a strong product-market fit,” he noted in an official statement.
