Fisker Ocean SUV: Rotating Screen & Electric Debut | Foxconn

Foxconn's Role in the Fisker Ocean SUV
A significant component of the forthcoming all-electric Fisker Ocean SUV is directly attributable to Foxconn’s involvement.
Fisker Ocean Unveiled
The production-ready version of the Fisker Ocean SUV was revealed on Wednesday during the Los Angeles Auto Show.
Innovative Central Screen
This inaugural electric vehicle from Fisker will feature a distinctive 17.1-inch central screen, manufactured by Foxconn. Notably, this screen possesses the ability to rotate between portrait and landscape orientations.
The automaker has branded this functionality as “Hollywood mode.” This mode is intended for entertainment purposes, allowing drivers and passengers to enjoy movies or games while the vehicle is stationary and charging.
Patent Pending Technology
Henrik Fisker, the company’s CEO and co-founder, confirmed that a patent application has been filed to protect the swiveling screen technology.
Evolution from Prototype to Production
Fisker initially showcased a prototype of the Ocean SUV at CES 2020 in Las Vegas. The company is now releasing further specifications regarding the vehicle.
Trim Levels and Pricing
Fisker intends to offer four distinct trim levels, available in 14 different colors.
- The base-level Sport trim will be priced at $37,499, excluding taxes and incentives.
- The Sport trim boasts a peak horsepower of 275 and an estimated range of 250 miles on a single charge, utilizing lithium-ion phosphate battery cell chemistry sourced from CATL.

The initial 5,000 vehicles produced will be the Fisker Ocean One, also priced at $68,999.
Performance Specifications
The Ultra and Extreme trims will be all-wheel drive, dual motor vehicles, delivering increased power and quicker acceleration.
The Ultra trim is estimated to produce 540 hp, achieving a 0-60 mph acceleration time of 3.9 seconds.
The Extreme and Ocean One trims will generate 550 hp, with a 0-60 mph acceleration time of 3.6 seconds.
Battery Technology
The Ultra, Extreme, and Ocean One trims will utilize CATL battery cells featuring nickel manganese cobalt chemistry.
The Ultra is projected to have a range of 340 miles, while the Extreme will exceed 350 miles.
Production and Delivery
Fisker currently has two vehicle programs underway.
The Fisker Ocean SUV will be assembled by Magna Steyr in Europe.
Production is slated to commence in November 2022, with deliveries to Europe and the United States beginning in late 2022.
The company aims to achieve a production capacity of over 5,000 vehicles per month by 2023.
Deliveries to customers in China are also anticipated to begin in 2023.
Project PEAR and Foxconn Collaboration
In May 2021, Fisker and Foxconn entered into an agreement to jointly develop and manufacture a new electric vehicle.
Henrik Fisker stated that the design phase progressed rapidly, and the companies are now focusing on the engineering and technical aspects, including a patent application for an innovative trunk opening mechanism and other technological advancements.
Origins of the Partnership
Interestingly, the vehicle manufacturing partnership originated from discussions between Fisker and Foxconn regarding the supply of a unique infotainment display, as revealed by Henrik Fisker.
Addressing Technological Lag
He emphasized that the automotive industry often lags behind in technology, noting that car technology is typically several years behind the latest advancements in devices like smartphones.
The goal was to emulate the rapid pace of innovation seen in companies like Foxconn, known for its work with iPhones.
From Infotainment to Full Vehicle Production
Discussions between Fisker and Foxconn began in January and quickly resulted in a finalized agreement. This subsequently led to the development of Project PEAR, the vehicle manufacturing deal.
