Uber Eats Expands to Turkey with Trendyol Go Acquisition

Uber Strengthens Turkish Market Position Through Acquisition

Uber is actively growing its operations within Turkey through a recent strategic acquisition.

The prominent ride-hailing and delivery company has secured an 85% controlling interest in Trendyol Go, a leading online meal and grocery delivery service located in Istanbul. This transaction, valued at approximately $700 million in cash, provides Uber with immediate access to market share for Uber Eats in Turkey.

Deal Details and Timing

This announcement regarding the acquisition was made just prior to Uber’s scheduled release of its first-quarter earnings report.

Investors are seeking confirmation of continued growth potential, particularly given projections of decreased consumer spending in 2025, influenced by tariffs implemented by President Trump. This comes after Uber withdrew its $950 million bid for Delivery Hero’s Foodpanda business in Taiwan.

Expansion Beyond Turkey

Uber is simultaneously pursuing expansion into various other sectors.

The company consistently announces new partnerships focused on autonomous vehicle technology, spanning its ride-hailing, delivery, and freight services.

Trendyol Go: A Significant Player

Trendyol Go functions as the food delivery division of Trendyol Group, a substantial e-commerce platform specializing in fashion and retail.

Trendyol Group is primarily owned by Alibaba. In 2024, Trendyol Go facilitated over 200 million orders, resulting in $2 billion in gross bookings – a 50% increase compared to the previous year.

The marketplace currently features more than 90,000 restaurants and employs a network of 19,000 couriers.

Integration and Future Plans

The completion of this acquisition is anticipated during the second half of 2025.

Following the acquisition, users will continue to utilize the Trendyol Go application. Uber intends to integrate key features from Uber Eats over the coming years.

Competitive Landscape and Further Acquisitions

Uber’s latest move occurs amidst ongoing competition for market share in the U.S., particularly from DoorDash.

In February, Uber initiated legal action against DoorDash, alleging anticompetitive practices. DoorDash has subsequently requested the dismissal of this lawsuit.

Notably, DoorDash recently announced its own expansion in Europe through the acquisition of both Deliveroo (U.K.) for $3.86 billion and SevenRooms for $1.2 billion.
